Born in Acadia (New Brunswick, Canada) in 1957, Joanne Savoie has lived in Ottawa for many years. A graduate in graphic arts and in interior decoration, she only became a full-time painter in 2006. When she started painting in 1989, Joanne did still lifes, landscapes and portraits, all with arresting realism. Then in 2002 she enrolled in a course with the master A.J. Desgagnés in Aylmer, Québec, and turned definitively toward abstract art.
Joanne Savoie has her own style, which joins illusion and reality, abstract and image; a style that could be described as impressionistic “dreaming”. She mainly uses a spatula, which gives movement and life to her paintings. The interaction between her and her canvas is immediate. She is constantly trying to grasp the impression of the moment, the fleeting emotions that, with her acute sense of observation and her overflowing imagination, allow her to perceive ever-more intriguing subjects.
Joanne Savoie’s paintings have been sold throughout Canada, in Europe and as far away as China. Her works are available at the Art Mode Gallery in Ottawa, Ontario www.artmode.com and the Sonart mini-gallery in Gatineau, Québec.
Many of her paintings will also be seen in exhibitions in Europe this year including Nice, Marseille and Barcelona www.com2artassociation.com.
